BRUCE LEE "One Inch Punch" Part 1

From 1997, here's a never-reprinted tale set in a world where Bruce Lee lived...

...to the "present day"!
To Be Continued...
TOMORROW!

Writer Mike Baron, penciler Val Mayerik, and inker James Sherman had produced a Kato of the Green Hornet mini-series for NOW Comics several years earlier featuring the character (based on Bruce Lee) in a solo adventure set in the present.
I suspect this was initially-intended to be the next Kato mini-series, but when NOW folded, it lost its' home.
In 1997, Malibu Comics was doing several martial-arts video game tie-ins including Street Fighter and licensed the Bruce Lee trademark from Lee's estate to give the new line of comics extra cachet among martial arts fans.

BRUCE LEE STORY "Chapter V: Beyond Hong Kong!"

Though Bruce's dream film project, The Silent Flute, fell by the wayside...

...Bruce, himself, was seriously in-demand as an actor/martial artist as the Kung Fu craze swept through pop culture!

Written by Martin Sands, penciled by Joe Staton (and Ron Wilson on this chapter), and inked by Tony DeZuniga and the Tribe studio.
Cover by Ken Barr.

BRUCE LEE STORY "Chapter IV: The Flute That Failed!"

...Bruce wanted to do more than just perform others' scripts!
Sadly, the movie wasn't produced in his lifetime.
But Bruce's death provided the impetus to actually produce and release the film!
Ironically, the ads promoted David Carridine, who ended up as the star of the TV series Kung Fu as the star of the film.
However, Carridine took the primary supporting role Lee had written for himself, playing various martial artists instructing the film's wandering protaganist, Cord (Jeff Cord) in numerous fighting styles and associated philosophies.
There's an excellent article about the movie (released as Circle of Iron) HERE!
